Diné College Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA):
The Diné College's BFA degree is housed within the School of Arts, Humanities, and English (SAHE) and promotes Diné culture, creativity, and excellence in the creation of art. This comprehensive degree of the arts prepares majors to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, confidence, and values to succeed as independent artists or to choose to continue in a postgraduate Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or Educational program. Students may earn a BFA with a major in one of the following 5 emphasis areas: Photography, Painting, Graphic Arts, Navajo Silversmithing or Navajo Weaving. The NCAP facilitates the development and growth of the Navajo Silversmithing and Navajo Weaving emphasis areas. Students working in these Navajo Cultural Arts BFA Emphases (NCA BFA) will work closely with faculty and staff in the SAHE and NCAP.
Location:
The Diné College's BFA Program offers Diné students the opportunity to complete their degree while residing on the Navajo Nation. Based at Tsaile campus, students are required to fulfill a residency requirement at the Tsaile campus.
Eligibility:
The BFA Program, including the NCA BFA Emphasis Areas, is opened to Associate of Fine Arts majors, part-time students, working adults, transfer students, military personnel and tribal and non-tribal students. Any student who wishes to pursue a degree in the arts can enroll in the BFA degree program.
Navajo Cultural Arts Bachelor of Fine Arts Requirements:
Students will select either the Navajo Silversmithing or Navajo Weaving Emphasis Areas and complete the following 122-125 credit hour Bachelor of Fine Arts program requirements: (see Degree Checklist)
- 40-43 credit hours of General Education Core Requirements
- 27 credit hours of Lower Core Foundation Requirements
- 9 credit hours of Cultural Arts Lower Core Foundation Requirements
- 46 credit hours of Cultural Arts Upper Level Studio Course Requirements
