Apprenticeship Program

Apprenticeships are available through the Navajo Cultural Arts Program for recipients of Navajo Cultural Arts Certificate. The Navajo Cultural Arts Apprenticeship (NCAA) Program intends to provide opportunities for intergenerational exchanges of knowledge and techniques through a mentor/mentee relationship between Master and Emerging Artisans.
 
 

Eligibility

  1. Navajo Cultural Arts Certificate
  2. Availability to intern for one semester (Spring, Fall or Summer 1&2)
  3. No previous NCAA participation

  4. Access to NCAP facilities, tools, and materials under the supervision of NCAP staff and mentors

Internship Requirements

  1. 60 contact hours with Mentor
    1. Mentees are required to create a cultural arts piece and/or collection under the guidance of their mentor. Mentees are also required to create a collaboration piece with their mentor. This includes collaborative design and creation of at least once piece.
  2. 36 individual workshop hours
    1. May be substituted for enrollment in Diné College cultural arts emphasis class to be paid for by the Navajo Cultural Arts Program.
  3. Quarterly Reports
    1. This includes budget updates, mentor timesheets, individual workshop timesheets, and reflection journals.
  4. Blog Writing
    1. Contribution to the NCAP Blog detailing their apprenticeship experience and/or art work explication.
  5. Exhibit Submission
    1. At minimum, 2 pieces are to be exhibited in the juried Spring 2019 Navajo Cultural Arts Program Exhibit to be held at the Ned Hatalthi Center Museum.
