Diné College Libraries is proud to host the Navajo Cultural Arts Program Blog Archive, originally housed on the NCAP website and ran from February 2016 to October 2021.
Every effort was made to preserve the integrity and format of the original blog from word/paragraph placements to font colors. While some display elements, such as embedded slideshows, couldn't be incorporated here, all pictures are still included herein.
Note from the Editor: Welcome to the Navajo Cultural Arts Blog, a student produced space for thoughts about their experiences of learning Diné practices and ways of knowing associated with art production. What started as a method to assess the holistic growth of the students within the Navajo Cultural Arts Certificate program quickly became a hub for Diné people nationally and internationally to reconnect to these core kinesthetic teachings of who we are as Diné. The space attracted guest blog authors to submit entries and micro series such as the Cultural Arts and Holistic Well-being series soon started. Readers of these blog entries gain unique insights to the Diné art practices, but they also walk away with more than just a glimpse to production. They learn of the struggles and successes of the cultural arts in the areas of business, marketing, language, and cultural connections to our Diné landscapes, skyscapes, waterscapes, and dreamscapes. As the editor of this outreach project, I introduced students to the blogging process, including the use of photos, the benefits of engaging titles, and abilities to connect to readers and themselves through personal rivets. While I edited grammar, helped with structure, and provided directions, the heart of their stories are theirs.
