Other NCC Press Publications

The following items below are publications associated with the press, but do not have International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN) and therefore are not as widely recognized as those with the unique book identifier numbers. Some come in the form of monographs, others are journals. Both are associated with the press.

Reports

Not long after the press started publishing books, many official reports became a regular part of the press’s publishing line up. These reports include President’s Reports, Reports to the Navajo Nation Council, and to the Navajo Community College Board of Regents. Many of these report contain construction and master plan updates, financial and enrollment data, program proposals and reports, curriculum and instruction information, and more.

Clifford E. Trafzer Historical Monograph Series

The titles Navajos and Spaniards, Diné and Bilagáana: The Navajos and the First Anglos, and Anglo Expansionists and Navajo Raiders: A Conflict of Interests are a series of short monographs (less than 24 pages) written by Clifford Earl Trafzer who was the former co-chair of the Department of History and Navajo Culture at Navajo Community College. All the monographs were published in 1978 and are numbered.

Student Writings

The NCC Press published student creative writing in a booklet format. These books featured fiction, poetry, essays and drawings by NCC Students.

Periodicals

Newsletters

Some of the earliest publications of the press, prior to the publication of books, were periodical items such as newsletters. These early newsletters were printed on high quality textured card-stock paper that many of the books published in the early 1970s were known for.

Diné Be’iina’: A Journal of Navajo Life

Diné Be’iina’ (ISSN 0885-2022) was published semi-annually, in May and November, by Navajo Community College, out of Shiprock, New Mexico. The journal had assistance from the NCC Press in producing this publication. The journal was devoted to the critical examination of social, economic, political, and health issues confronting the Navajo Nation. The journal solicited articles, poetry, and short stories in addition to book reviews, letters to the editor, and research-in-progress reports for publication. The publication had a short run, with the first issue debuting in Spring 1987 and the last issue in Fall 1990.
