Navajo Times: Home

There are many ways to access the Navajo Times through our library. Learn how here!

About the Navajo Times

The Navajo Times started in 1959 as a monthly newsletter published by the Education Committee of the Navajo Tribe in Window Rock, Arizona, capital of the Navajo Nation. Dillon Platero, chairman of the Tribal Council’s Education Committee, was the first editor and publisher. Over the past half century, its editorial staff has continually faced challenges for editorial control from political leaders and opponents. In 2004 the newspaper established financial independence from the tribal council, with the subheading “Diné Bi Naaltsoos.”

Hardcopy Access

All three Diné College libraries carry hardcopies of the latest issues (usually up to 3 months) of the Navajo Times at the help desk and are available upon request. Hard copies must be read in the library and cannot be checked out.
